AnthropoScene is a science-theatre lab created and run by English Theatre Leipzig as a way to act on sustainability. We bring together scientists, theatre makers and the general public to explore, experiment and play around with how complex scientific issues can be understood and disseminated through the medium of theatre.
ETL created AnthropoScene as a workshop series, through which we playfully explore science issues, help enhance communication skills and create short performances relying on theatrical and pedagogical methods. So far this series has focused on intensive and immersive weekend theatre labs (read more here about 2023 and 2024), however, from 2025, we will expand the project to include shorter and more regular evening workshops, as well as more developed performances for the general public. We are also currently developing workshop formats for young adults and schools.
Pressing environmental and scientific issues can feel tremendously overwhelming and people are increasingly suffering from climate anxiety. Through AnthropoScene, we aim to create communities of people that come together to approach these crises in a proactive, collective and even joyful way.
